I suffer from panic attacks but this morning had a real scare. I woke up in a panic n thinking it s my asthma popped some ventolin and atrovent into a nebuliser. Next thing i know my heart i beating so fast i was turning blue n thought i was going to have a heart attack! we stopped the drugs n my fiance called an ambulance n when they finally arrived about 15 minutes later!! my pulse had slowed n i was regaining colour.. they gave me some oxygen n decided i was ok to stay at home but my gp will be round later. has anyone else experienced a panic attack /tachycardia like this? is it likely to happen so badly again?

Dr has been over this morning n given me a prescription for diazepam (valium) to take if it happens badly again. it was definitely taking the ventolin and atrovent that caused it this time..ill know better in future!

yes it can happen again. you should consult a psychiatrist if it bothers you too much. he will then prescribe you with a medication to relieve the symptoms. but of course you have to satisfy a criteria for you to be diagnosed with one. symptoms are period of intense fear or discomfort for 10 minutes with 4 or more of the ff symptoms like palpitations, sweating, shaking, shortness of breath, feeling of choking, chest pain or discomfort, nausea or abdominal distress, feeling dizzy, feelings of unreality, fear of going crazy, fear of dying, numbness or tingling sensations and chills or hotflushes.

if you didn't satisfy this criteria, you just have to relax, take a deep breath for a few times and try not to stress yourself too much.

Panic attacks can increase your heart rate. Mine do. but you added to the attack my gving your asthma meds which could have been fatal. Panic attacks can feel like asthma attacks I have both as well. Just remember if you are not wheezing its a panic attack iof you are wheezing it is the asthma. At least that is what my drs told me. I am not a dr, this is how I handle mine. You should always talk to drs about this stuff. And yes I have had several of these very hard attacks. I chew ativan to get the attack down quicker I start with (1) 1mg pill chew get it under the tounge to get it in system faster, if one is not enough i take a second one this is dr order and does work well for me.

Ive had panic attacks for years. Recognize it for what it is and take deep breaths until it passes. Your inhaler likely made it much worse as there is a steroid in it. It can happen at any time, so be prepared, but dont live your life expecting it or you will never sleep. I also found it helped to get busy doing something to take your mind off it. Check with your doc---it could be your meds causing it.
