Renin is consistently produced in our kidneys. It is part of the Renin Angiotensin Axis which monitors and controls blood pressure. Patients with High Blood pressure usually treated with ACE ( angiotensin converting enzyme) Inhibitor. The decrease of Blood pressure during shock will cause an increase amount of renin which is converted into angiotensin. Which effects the kidneys by retaining sodium. Water will follow sodium which is to cause an increase in blood pressure.

When your blood pressure is low or when you have congestive heart failure. The purpose of renin is to constrict our arteries and increase the kidneys' retention of water and salt, so that our blood pressure will increase to come back to normal.
