You can use disposable. I love real china, but it is the holidays and you are having a nice sized crowd. You can visit a nice party store and find holiday or engagement plates, napkins, etc. Your family and friends will just want to help you celebrate - CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Definetly, disposable table wear! With 70 people for an announcement party, thats alot of people and alot of dishwashing too! There are many new disposable plates with funky designs available at local party stores. Or you can opt for the plain one if you like. You could however, use real china wear for a smaller dinner party, maybe with your immediate family. You can rent, but you might as well invest in a good set, that way you can use it for christmas dinner and other family holidays. When you have your kids you have a story to tell them too, that these plates have been in the family since mom and dad were engaged! Conratulations and Good Luck!

Nice plastic plates, definitely. The more people, the more drinking, the more crowded, the more things get broken. Then you'd have to pay extra to the rental company.
Nobody's going to question disposable plates for a biggish party. They'll know that there's going to be a bigger party later at the reception!

Disposable table ware, they have some really nice disposable table ware now adays, its not just the foam plates and white plastic knifes. And if someone comments on them just say that now that you're engaged you have to save every penny for your huge, gorgeous, amazing wedding.

Depends on what your menu items are but I would go with the nice plastic plates it will make it easier on you as long as you don't make foods that require alot of cutting you should be good!

have you called a rental company? i would compare the prices of china versus good disposable, and then decide. if it's a house party and disposable is cheaper (it probably will be), i wouldn't worry about the throwing out part, it's less work.
