I was a heavy smoker for ten years myself. I tried to quit dozens of times, but was unsuccessful. What ultimately worked for me was hypnotherapy. I haven't had a cigarette in three years, and I don't get the urge anymore, so I'm a big believer in hypnotherapy.

The other answers you have gotten are great. Although I have one suggestion that works for me: take in one day at a time. When you say "never again", you begin to panick and crave a ciggerette right then and there. So take it one day at a time. Or even an hour at a time. Seriously! Just say....Okay it's 5:30 now, I'll have a smoke at 6:30. Then at 6:30 say..."Ok, I can wait until 7:30". Next thing you know the whole day has gone by and you've gotten through it without a single cigg.
And no, silly you don't lose weight. Instead you begin trying to fill the craving with other foods. Mine is chocolate. Dangerous stuff. But what alot of people have had success with is replacing smoking with exercise. Try it out!!

So far I've hadn't had a smoke in about 250 days. Each time I try to quit I make it twice as long (hopefully it's for real this time). Pick a significant date a few weeks in advance to mentally prepare yourself. Your body will feel strange as it adjusts not not having 10,000 different chemicals pumped through it all the time.
Any time I have a craving, I stop and count on my fingers (all 10) reasons to not smoke ever again. Here are some:
You'll breathe better.
You won't stink.
Food will taste better.
Flowers will smell better.
You'll save money.
You can digest food better.
You'll save time, not having to "stop at the store for a pack of smokes" or taking "cig breaks."
It will be at least one less thing upon which you'll need to depend.
You will feel an esteem boost by conquering the world's toughest addiction.
Your circulation will improve and your hands and feet won't be so cold in the winter.
Your pets, friends and relatives will endure less second-hand smoke.
The list can go on...
8 years isn't too too long to turn back from. Make sure you drink a lot of water!
Good luck, it will be the best thing you can do for yourself!

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

the stimulant effects of smoking can help with weight loss. Some weight gain amongst new "nonsmokers" can happen once you quit. Best ways to quit smoking (I could type five pages or so), is to get with a support group, and ask a doctor about some meds to help. Not knowing your medical conditions, I would counsel with a doctor, but some of thise meds can help.
1. wellbutrin (works great, kind of expensive, but you can't take it with other SSRI meds like prozac, zoloft, etc).
2. Clonidine (works awesome, very cheap. Only drawback, it is also used for hypertension, so if you're hypotensive, you might not be able to take it).
3. commit lozenges (seem to help with withdrawl, available over the counter, but taste like crap).
Hope it works out for you!!

Hi there ! Smoking leads to anorexia in some people ...ie: lack of hunger. hence less food intake and hence weight loss. Now you want to stop smoking ??? visit the cancer ward of the nearest cancer hospital. You should see the sufferings undergone by those patients. You will be surprised to see that, 98% of the patients suffering from cancer of mouth regions give the history of smoking. gutkha chewing or tobacco chewing ! Or else , visit the nearest cardiac centre ! See the post-operative ward there ! See the sufferings undergone by the patients recovering after bye-pass surgeries... or else..think about the dear ones waiting for you at home..! You see all these and then the choice is yours.. I myself was a chronic smoker, smoking around 30 cigarretes daily. One fine morning i stopped......after seing few of my close friends sufferings.... best wishes
