I am hosting a large New Year's Eve party which is being held in a typical ballroom. The ceiling won't allow for a balloon drop and housekeeping won't allow for a confetti throw ( cannon)! Any one else have a creative way to end the evening or to do a countdown?

What about a bubble machine? They're not that expensive! I've listed some sources below. You may be able to get them at Walmart, Target or Spencer's gifts. Your local party store probably carries them, too.

My suggestion would be to put the bubble machine someplace higher than your heads and let the bubbles float down.

you could supply everyone with cans of spray string that doesn't make a mess like confetti cause you spray it on each other.
or you could try to find out about renting one of those bubble making machines that might be neat
