Last time I heard there were at least 32 STDs out there. Some can be cured, some not. Each have their own damaging effect.

Syphillis- Treated with pencillin but must be caught early enough. It attacks your brain and slowly turns it to soup.
Chylmidia- Cured with antibiotics and attacks your reproductive system.
Gnorrohea- Cured with antibiotics
All these can be caught. For women get a blood test and a pap smear. For men usually its a blood test.

best thing to do is keep your penis in your pants and then you don't have to treat it for anything as for the stds most are treated with shots of penicillin or some of the sulfur drugs
