We'll be having baked butternut squash stuffed with portobello mushrooms & sage, with all the trimmings (roast spuds, mash, sesame carrots & parsnips, no sprouts!). It's certainly different to normal! I rarely have time to cook as much as I'd like to, so it's great to have that extra opportunity that the holiday brings.
What will you be having?

In South Asia: some people like having a rich Indian (Mughlai) lamb or chicken biryani (a kind of pilaff) dinner for special occasions, with Bengali sweetmeats or kulfi, or even Indian bread pudding (shahi-tookda), as a top-off. In southern India, many families have a lavish New Year brunch consisting of hoppers (fluffly rice pancakes) with white curries, and milk-based sweets.
On the other hand, you could look up Goan Christmas or New Year cuisine, especially a good sorpotel recipe, for alternative ideas?
