The term isometric comes from the Greek for "having equal measurement".

isometric may mean:

A form of exercise where you tense and strengthen your muscles, without doing very much else. E.g. putting your legs either side of a chair's legs and pushing against the chair. The theory is that you can exercise your muscles without much effort and while you're doing other things.
