I am not currently a veggie so when I go into a restaraunt I often ask the waitress if they like something on the menu and I have gotten many veggie waitresses. As veggies and vegans, what do you think about that? thanks! (I am not trying to be rude or harrass anyone, this is a real, honest question)

Ok, I guess my question should have been stated differently. What I mean is if they don't believe in killing animals and eating them (and I ask them lots of questions so I know this is why they are veggies) why would they choose a job where they have to serve it up to people. Again, I am not trying to be rude, I just think that there are other jobs that don't go against your beliefs. Thanks.

I think you are 100% right. With all due respect to people who do not agree with me. As a vegetarian, I totally cross out the food industry jobs in general for this same reasons you have mentioned. There is no way on earth I would accept jobs that go against my principles.
I even totally avoid going to restaurants that are not vegetarian. I have 20 vegetarian restaurants to chose from in my city.
If a person absolutely wants to be a waiter, there are many vegetarian restaurants, juice bars in every city...
Then again we all think differently and the answers you get are all based on personal views.

I think it's great that you've got many veggie waitresses! The more the better!
Seriously, having worked in restaurants & pubs and being a vegetarian, I do know what you mean. If I was asked for a recommendation, I would mention the dishes that were most popular that day, or if we were doing a special, I'd see if they wanted to try that.

Well, the two main things that come to my mind are:
1.) The waiter/waitress needs to pay the bills, and may not have the luxury of choosing "The Perfect Job;" and
2.) When I go to a restaurant, I eat whatever I think that I would like--not what the waitstaff likes. The waiter/waitress is (usually) a complete stranger, and I have no reason to believe that we have similar tastes.
So, basically, whether the waitstaff lives solely off of veggies or steak, does not make a bit of difference in my dining experience.

As long as the server has been well briefed on the food being served there is no problem. I worked in a very expensive restaurant when I was I vegetarian and didnt need to explain that i didnt know how good the duck (or whatever) was as I was a vegetarian, as I 'knew' the dishes so well.
As a meat eater now, I hate it when the waiter tells me that they are a vegetarian, and dont know what the foods like.

As long as they don't makes rude comments or get an attitude when I order a nice juicy steak I really don't care what my waitress eats. And I'm not trying to be rude either just honest. SMILE!!

good waiting staff will have worked somewhere long enough to know what is popular. Should they not eat something on the menu then they will see, smell and hear what it like over the course of time.
Anybody with half a brain should be able to do this!

THE SAME IS ASKED OF ME, I AM A VEGAN AND PPL SEEM TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ME COOKING SOME FOODS FOR CERTAIN MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS,LIKE IT'S ANY OF THEIR BUSINESS! MY KIDS ARE VEGETARIAN( THEY EAT FISH,I) HAVE AN EXTERME ALLERGY TO SEAFOOD, ALL OF IT BUT, ONCE IN AWHILE I TREAT THEM BY MAKING IT IF THEY ASK ME,THEY LOVE MY COOKING SO WHY SHOULD I STOPPED COOKING FOR THEM? I JUST OPENED ALL THE WINDOWS AND PUT ON A FACE MASK LIKE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS WEAR. AND SPRAYED NEUTRALIZING SPRAY ALL OVER THE HOUSE. I MADE TURKEY FOR RELATIVES THE OTHER DAY,THEY PURCHASED IT I COOKED IT! I DID'NT KILL IT! THEY REALLY LOVE MY COOKING AND NO I DON'T EVEN TASTE IT! THAT TO ME IS DISGUSTING!
I WISH EVERYONE WAS VEGETARIAN/VEGAN BUT, SINCE I'M NOT THAT MILITANT GIRL I ONCE WAS I REALIZE I CAN'T "FORCE"MY VIEWS ON OTHERS!
AND WAITRESSING IS JUST A JOB AND JOBS ARE HARD TO COME BY....IT DOES'NT BOTHER ME TO SEE VEGGIE PPL WORKING AROUND MEAT! WE STILL GOTTA PAY THE BILLS!

There's nothing to really think about it. Waiters don't usually get to try things off the menu, it's far too busy. Most of the time if you get a recommendation they're lying in hopes of saving time.

so what your saying is that because they are vegetarians, they can't tell you if something is good or not, because it has meat in it?....I guess that would be a tad irritating that you have to rely on just the brief description on the menu to make a decision as to what to order....I'd rather have a waitress who has actually tried the food where he/she works, I'd hate to pay $10.99 for a plate of crap, just my personal opinion........

Maybe they are the enlightened veggies that see it as personal choice what people eat.
The radical "meat is murder" brigade wouldn't take those jobs on.
