My husband and I are newly married and we are throwing our first big bash together on New Year's Eve. 20s married crowd, about 35-40 people. What would make an impression on you at a party? What types of things make a good party in your opinion? What types of things don't you like to see at a party?

You HAVE to do the countdown! I've been to so many parties where they either forgot about the countdown, or the crowd was so loud that no one heard it. That's just the biggest letdown, and I think it starts off the New Year on an unlucky foot. So make a big deal about it! Wait until about 10 minutes before midnight to hand out the noisemakers, and remind all your drunk friends that it's almost countdown time. Get Times Square on the t.v. and crank it up at about 11:58. Get everyone to be really quiet, then bust out the champagne at midnight! Then sing Auld Lang Syne (did I spell that right?) even if you don't know the words.

I am much older than your crowd but I have thrown a lot of New Year's Eve parties and I have been to a lot. I agree that music is a must, even if it is background music. It's fun to have a few game tables set up with choices of several different games. There are so many fun ones available these days, like Taboo, Pictionary, Mad Gab, Cranium. Make it low key and informal and people can play games or not. They are great ice-breakers and always worth lots of laughs. A few decks of cards available would be good, also. Or you can organize a game such as Charades. Always have a nice choice of munchies or snacks around. (There is nothing wrong with asking your guests to bring an appetizer of some sort.) As it gets closer to midnight, turn the music off and the TV on so everyone can "watch the ball drop" and count down. I also feel it is important to provide noisemakers of some sort to everyone. It can even be as simple as banging pots and pans, but there are very cool things you can buy. I especially like the "crackers" that spew out streams of colored paper. Provide champagne at midnight. Another thing to consider if you like is to serve a midnight supper, such as spaghetti and garlic bread, or breakfast foods. The things that make an impression on me at a party are attention to detail by the hosts, a sufficent supply of food and drink (B.Y.O.B. works fine), and feeling comfortable being there. What I don't like to see at a party are guests who are drunk and obnoxious, although I know that is sometimes hard to control; and I don't like to see guests being forced to play games when they don't want to. There are lots of good ideas here. I think the music is one of the most important elements. People stay a long time at a New Year's Eve party. By midnight, they are trashed and the clock striking midnight can be a little anti-climactic. One way to avoid this is by putting on some upbeat music around 11:30pm. I am sure you will have music playing the entire party, but pay special attention to this music. Build the momentum through music and by the time midnight rolls around, they will be good and ready for it.

Haveing really great music is a must, so put all the song yu want for the night on a couple of disc's so there is continuos play... also, food, lots of chicken gourjons, hams, sauses, breads, crips, Roast, sausages, ye know just loads of food, try this Sangeria, it is really tasty A bottle of Rum One Bottle of Fanta Lemon (must be the lemon one) 2 tins of Mixed Cocktail fruit, and 1kg of sugar, make it early in the day only add half the rum first stir now and again and before people arrive about 1 Hour before add the rest of the rum, everyone loves it, this is a secret recipe......Don't forget Decorations, party poppers, and the Final countdown Jon Bon Jovi Song?or is it Europe

Sounds like you already have the friends, and they will be the most important element of the party, just make sure they are well fed and you have plenty of champagne to toast the New Year and you're set. Have a blast and BTW - where is my invite?

i can only think of this at the mo but the big thing seems to be chocolate fountains get them for about £25

The answer to a great party is... booze, good food, and music.
A BBQ while setting off some backyard fireworks is always neat, and you don't have to do much cooking....
No tv... music only... stuff everyone will enjoy....
a good drinking game (that is funny) will start off the night...

i like to see wine ,couples loving ,cakes,fruits,breads,hotdogs,a big heart that symbolize the loving and a lifetime relationship and i dont like to see beer because when the people got bad it is the start of fight because of the beer,animals that are only missing in their way,naughty children,very noisy place
