Being pregnant is often a hard time. I already had diabetes before i became pregnant and had a tough time being very sure to keep my sugars extra low.

Try a bit of dark chocolate with meals.Add on the carbos and skip another carbo such as bread or pasta.
Chocolate is absorbed slowly due to the fat content and for that reason is not good for treating a low sugar. A bit now and then will not hurt you or your baby.
After you give birth, you can eat candy but watch out since many times gestational diabetes turns to type 2.
Congrats on your baby.

You can bake with sweetners too. It makes for some good sweet tooth stuff. I have been diabetic for 10 yrs now and I find that eating the sugar free stuff is pretty good but it does cost abit more and it does have the laxative effect on most people if you eat too much. The best thing I do for myself is just have little amounts of sweets if I really feel the need for it but only when your sugars are in good control. You get to know how your sugars are real well I find after about 5 yrs of having this crappy disease. Hang in there, supermarkets are getting more and more tasty things for diabetics.

Choose snack replacements, like for afternoon snack, have a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Regular size has approx. 23 carbs and is also lower in actual sugar carbs w/ some actual protein. My son age 11, was diagnosed at age 8. My sister, whom is now 38, was diagnosed at age 12, and I was 8. She is now experiencing a lot of complications due to the lack of technology when she was diagnosed, but now with all of the technology and knowledge, this is a disease we can live with. So, cut back on carbs at meals and have a few sweets once in awhile, just watch portion size and don't let yourself feel like you can't have it. YOU CAN, just keep your blood glucose levels in check. Good Luck... I truly know how you feel...

I've been diabetic for 18 years. Sugar free candy is a very good substitute, some of it's almost as good as the real stuff. Just beware of eating too much it can have a laxative type effect

sugar free things are ok but the sugar alcohol that they put in these products for the sweetness give you the squirts...BAD.
try a good old Hershey chocolate bar, only 23 carbs for the whole bar
