My husband is 31 yrs old and has recently seen a cardiologist about " him being very aware of his heart beat." He was in the ER, had an EKG and they just told him to stay away from caffeine. I am not sure what is going on, and just wanted to know if anyone ever experienced this before and/or has any idea of what it could be related to. His heart does not beat faster, but it was determined it was a possible AV block in the first degree, meaning the heart was "skipping a beat" Of course, this is a scary situation, but I just wanted some input to see if anyone else experienced this. He has further tests scheduled for after the holiday, an echocardiogram, a stress test and a holter monitor. His bloodwork all came back good, and the only other test the doc suggested was a lyme disease test, and I am not sure why? So any information that could help me, at least have a little peace of mind until further tests are done would be great.

It sounds like heart palpitations, which can be aggrivated by caffeine and nicotine, but it's usually not too harmful. It can be pretty scary, though!

My husband is 42 & experienced this about 3 years ago. He went into the hospital, ekg, same thing, finally the doc asked him to try something. He told him to take a deep breath & push down with his muscles, "any woman who's gone through labor knows exactly what this is." He had to do it probably 3 or 4 times to get it right or for it to work but it did immediately. I don't know if this is something he should try or not, but you might wanna find out about it.

I have, some of it was low blood pressure, some was high blood pressure caused by broncial medications.
(Proven by stop taking the meds)

I have done the 'skip a beat' after 5 back to back doses of albuterol.

Get a blood pressure monitor and check pressure and pluse rate.
often. I did an Omeron wrist monitor, it has a memory for the last 90 test

Late signs of Lyme disease include:-
# cardiac arrhythmias
# tachycardia (too-rapid heartbeat)
Atrioventricular (AV) block is partial or complete interruption of impulse transmission from the atria to the ventricles. The most common cause is idiopathic fibrosis and sclerosis of the conduction system. Diagnosis is by ECG; symptoms and treatment depend on degree of block, but treatment, when necessary, usually involves pacing.
Please see the web pages for more details on Lyme disease and Atrioventricular block.
