In Japan this is known as mo-ro-he-i-ya / モロヘイヤ. I've never heard of anyone eating it, which explains why I never see it in the supermarkets! But it's a popular health product! See these two pages;

However, the most FAMOUS use of this plant is in the infamous 'MOYATTO juice' they use as a punishment in IQ サプリ / IQ sapuri! This terrifying drink is actually a 'health' product, but it's used as punishment for the person on the show who doesn't spot one of the 'differences' in a mirror-video spot the difference!

This clip (which is rather long I'm afraid,) has several people forced to drink moyatto juice at the end, so it must have been a 'special' episode with extra people!

It's RIGHT at the end when they drink it, too..!

In Kansai area, I think mulukhiya is getting popular and being sold at supper markets. It is served as tempura or ohitashi(boiled and eat with soy source). Or finely chopped boiled mulukhiya mixed with natto. Or ingredients of miso soup.
