Lovastatin is a member of the drug class of statins, used for lowering cholesterol (hypolipidemic agent) in those with hypercholesterolemia and so preventing cardiovascular disease.
Side effects
Lovastatin is usually well tolerated. Lovastatin, and all statin drugs, can rarely cause myopathy or rhabdomyolysis. This can be life threatening if not recognised and treated in time and so any unexplained muscle pain or weakness whilst on lovastain should be promptly mentioned to the prescribing doctor.
Generally it is good for reductin of Cholestral and in rare cases side effects as above are noticed. The medicine should be taken only on advise of a doctor and in case of any adverse effect you should consult the doctor immediately-.

hmm.. every drugs prescribe has it's own advantages and disadvantges. Side effects may differ in individual. normally lovastatin is well tolerated. but rarely it may cause myopathy (neuromuscular diease resulting in muscle weakness). if you experience any unexplained muscle pain or weakness.. discuss it with your doctor.
