If you were eating the real thing the spices they use are very expensive to start with. The chef at a good restaurant (and you didn't say that this was in the food court at the local mall) commands a good salary because it his cooking that will bring you back. The cost of seafood is unbelievable so even to buy it and cook it yourself is going to set you back a few dollars. I say if you enjoyed the meal then it was worth the price.

It really depends on where you are eating. I paid a lot of money for Indian meals in Gold Coast, Australia. I guess it's because of the ingredients and spices that not locally available and have to be imported. Also the novelty of it may inspire the restaurant owners to hike up prices. In Dubai, you could pay varying prices for the same menu.

That sounds really good, I'd pay that much too. If a restaurant knows that their food is worth the price they will charge a lot. Try an Indian buffet the next time which is cheaper, just as good and offers more variety.

If you went to a good restaurant, then you did not get ripped off. You got a lot of food.

On the other hand, if all of your food was sitting under a heat lamp before you got it, then you got ripped off.

I've spent $40 on lunch at a fancy restaurant (The Stinkin' Rose) and it was well worth it!

Sounds like you paid a bit much. I went to a buffet in the little India area of L.A. county and paid just 10 bucks. And boy did I eat, it was delicious!

man! Are you serious? That sounds like a rip off. I had buffets that were delicious and like $8. And yesterday I went to this architect's company Christmas party and half the company is Indian so they had authentic Indian food and I pigged out! And it was delicious. After knowing how much you paid, I wish I had eaten more.

I have no answer for you. However, that actually seems pretty standard because you had several dishes. I know I've paid upwards of $40 and the proportions were small too.

Sounds delicious. Yeah, seems kinda pricy, I probably wouldn't have eaten there, but if it hit the spot, then it was worth it. Any way, it's the way they prepare the food, it takes a lot of time to cook. Yumm nann.
