People with cancer or pnemonia(sp) can have this. A Dr. will clarify for you.

It could be TB! But then again if they said you had a shadow on the lung and believed it may be TB they would have sent you for further tests! A shadow on a lung could also be a sign of fluid in the lung, but once again they would have sent you for more tests!

Did the hospital/doctor say you have a shadow on your lung and left it at that? Or did they send you for more tests? If so would be good to know what tests they sent you for as that may give more indication of what the doctors suspect it to be!! If you haven't been sent for further tests I suggest you go to your Gp and explain in order that more tests can be carried out.

I understand you must be very worried but you know a shadow can be something simple such as a recent or even old chest infection that has caused a little scarring or a previous pneumonia which may or may not have respond d too well to antibiotics.Naturally like most of us our heads go directly to the very worst thoughts such as tumour but you will need further investigation to determine the real cause but please try and stick to the simple reasons first.Good luck anyway and take it a day at a time regards margaret

DARE I SAY IT, BUT A SHADOW ON THE LUNG IS A VERY VAGUE TERM AND COULD MEAN ONE OF MANY DIFFERENT THINGS. YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT AN X-RAY IS A 2-D OVERLAY OF 3-D STRUCTURES.

FIRSTLY, IT COULD BE DUE TO AN INFECTION.

SECONDLY, IT COULD BE FLUID IN THE LUNG (PULMONARY OEDEMA) USUALLY CAUSED BY HEART PREOBLEMS.

THIRDLY, IT COULD BE FLUID AROUND THE LUNG (PLEURAL EFFUSION) AND THIS CAN OCCUR FOR MANY REASONS (INFECTION, INFLAMMATION, CANCER).

IT COULD BE A MASS, BUT THAT COULD BE AN ENLARGED LYMPH NODE DUE TO INFECTION OR CANCER, OR INDEED COULD REPRESENT A PRIMARY TUMOUR ITSELF.

ALSO, AS WE GET OLDER, OUR BONE STRUCTURE CHANGES SO SOMETIMES WE SEE EXTRA BITS OF BONE FROM THE RIBS WERE IT SHOULDN'T BE. AND AS WE GET OLDER, OUR ARTERIES GET HARDER AND MORE CALCIFIED AND THIS CALCIUM MAYBE THE SHADOW THEY'VE SEEN.

IN SHORT, A 'SHADOW ON THE LUNG' REQUIRES FURTHER INVESTIGATION AS IT COULD BE ONE OF NUMEROUS THINGS, THE INITIAL CAUSE OF WHICH COULD BE OUTSIDE OF THE LUNGS THEMSELVES. IF FURTHER INVESTIGATION IS PLANNED, THEN MY ADVICE IS SIT TIGHT, AND HAVE A DISCUSSION WITH THE DOCTOR IN CHARGE OF YOUR CARE.

I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST IN THIS MATTER.

The person who told you that had to be med staff, but instead of following up there . . . you come here ?
What is up with that ? Even if a doctor was visiting here, do you think he can read the film from here ?
Go back and ask the people who have your film .

Please go to a doctor. We're not professionals here, & I would highly recommend a visit to a hospital to get X-rayed.

It's not that I don't care - it's cos I don't have the answer. Good luck.
