Has anyone had the Jamaican "Goat's Head Soup" before? I am thinking about trying it!

Having had it a number of times and only seen it cooked once, when I worked in Montego Bay Jamaica back in the 1980's it was quite pleasant, but it also depends on the area of Jamaica and the person cooking it.

It can be thick with veg and strong with Scotch Bonnet peppers, they like to with it like with fish rundown add a lot of starch product, cassava, yellow yams, plantains.

I like one with callalo and carrots with just white potatos, best to get it the first day, it does tend to get a bit of a earthy taste the next day. It has a lamb flavour like previously said, they do not serve you parts of the head to freak you out, the head and the meat are separated, and chopped into the soup, so you will not have an eye looking back at you when it is served to you, that is left for the cook???

It might be okay, I have had goat's cheese and that was good. If they make it with the meat it should be fine. If they start throwing in the brains and stuff I would stay away from it. Then I think you are better off with a good steak.

When you are an old, old person, you are far more likely to regret the things you never did, than you are the things you DID do...

So stop thinking about it and try some! You can be sure that if a dish is widely known it's because enough people like it that it keeps on getting prepared....

Try it! Come on, you wouldn't know it if you wouldn't taste it would you? It might be good to others but it won't be good to you or vice versa; if u need encouragement, be brave! be courageous! it won't hurt to taste!

Dave,

Go for it. If you don't like it, you won't eat the rest of the bowl. But at least you tried it.
