He needs to take his medication as directed. If he begins to feel worse, he needs to be evaluated.

He may not have much of an appetite, but he needs to stay well hydrated. Resting is important, but continuous bed rest could make things worse. Make sure he goes for short walks. If he smokes, hide his cigarettes (or a least try to limit him if you can).

If he has other medical problems, like diabetes, he needs to be diligent about managing those too.
