My daughter told me 2 days ago that one of her best friends was HIV Positive. The person is only 27 years old. Now he is being shunned from his family because of how he got the virus, lives in the South and now wants to move North because my daughter and I are here. My daughter is so hurt about her friend and is willing to stand by him. I knew him before my daughter did therefore I to am standing by him. It's just that I think, He's only 27! It's heartbreaking. If you had gotten this disease from a broken condom, by accident or some other way such as a blood transfusion, what would you do?

I remember getting the herpes virus and with that or any std the stigma is painful.

I would join a support group for people with aids; alot of people have it and keep it a secret. It is a virus, and there should be no stigma to it. You need people who are intelligent with this mindset to support you.

You will need alot of help as a caregiver as well.

I take care of a child who is ill and it can be very painful. I know you are a strong person to take on this person into your home
and help him take his meds and cope.

Be sure to take care of yourself. God Bless You.

Sounds like he needs to be surrounded by people who care about him. All you can do is read up on HIV/AIDS and support him. He is probably feeling really bad not just sick but also because his family shunned him. Just be there for him, you and your daughter will be a good thing for him. good luck.

I would live my life the way that I want to. in this day and age and the drugs that we have now, HIV/AIDS is almost the new diabetes. people live for years upon years with the disease. it's not like cancer, he's not going to die probably even in the next 10 years.
