OK....so today I went to the doctor for a problem not related to being sick with any type of infection (common cold, flu). So, the nurse come sin, and he is sniffling and coughing a little bit. I know this sounds crazy, but do you think he was sick and can get me sick? I am going home for Winter Break from colege on Monday, and I am trying so hard not to get sick. I have been taking Airborne, and getting as much sleep as I possibly can, considering that it is exam week. He took my blood pressue (meaning he touched me) and was talking somewhat close to me as he was asking me questions. I know this sounds borderline paranoia, but I truly do not want to get sick. Do you think I am overreacting and am going to be fine? Please help...

Don't think you are over reacting. Health providers that exhibit symptoms of infection or sickness should not be attending patients. Trust your instincts, and speak up about what you observed. Ask the nurse directly, and then express what you observed to the operating management's attention......they may be unaware of it. Whatever the case may be ..if you are solid about what you saw, you are totally within normal protocol to inquire as to if the indiviual is sick or if it may be something that will turn out to be a non-issue. Either way ,avoid close contact and wash exposed parts with soap and water and you should be fine. And trust that you are doing the correct thing by whistle-blowing should the case be that the worker is sick, and if not ...whats the downside? The downside is not saying anything.Trust your instincts and have have a great winter break.

You're overreacting. He is under pressure to come to work with a cold just like all other employees. Just take normal precautions and if you get sick, you get sick.

My significant other was living in fear because he used to catch colds a lot and really suffered when he did. I wondered what he would do with me because I have a son who was living in a group home at the time, and my son always seemed to have a cold on his weekends home. Plus I am a terrible housekeeper, though I never get sick. For some reason, my man has only had 3 colds in the 8 years since we got this house together, even though he was sick all the time before. I haven't had a cold in about 10 years even though I never make any effort to stay away from sick people. If you're going to get it, you're going to get it and there isn;t much you can do about it.

Yes, you're overreacting. You are "touched" plenty of times in the real world without your knowledge and you generally don't get sick. Be consistent about washing your hands often and, when you think you should, take Airborne (or Zicam which is also good) and go on about your life. Right now you need to calm down or stressing yourself out is going to make you more vulnerable to illness!

Enjoy your Winter Break.
