I'm really not sure what products would be best for you. My mom has HBP and she tried Coricidin HPB in the past and it make her feel very sick.

I don't have HPB, but I don't like taking any sort of a drug unless absolutely necessary. I had a cold last week and made it through with mentholatum under my nose, vics on my chest and the new Cepacol sore throat coating lozenges in lime.

I would also recommend taking a lot of showers (helps break up mucous) and soup.

If a person is taking high blood pressure medicine they must be careful of OTC cold medicine because there is a chance of interaction. Some of the ingredients in the cold medicine may raise blood pressure. If you have high blood pressure read labels and/or talk to your pharmicist or doctor.

Cold medicines can have a variety of ingredients. The one you need to avoid is pseudoephedrine, a decongestant, that can elevate you blood pressure among other things.

You can actually treat you cold symptoms without using combination medicines:
Fever and aches: Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen (Advil)
Cough: Cough drops, guaifenesin (expectorant), dextromethorphan (cough suppressant)
Runny nose: Antihistamine (careful older one like Bendryl can make you pretty sleepy)
Sore throat: Lozenges, sprays and gargles (salt water for example) can help.

Things that don't help. Vitamin C: If you take it you will begin to feel better in 48 hours; if you don't it will take 2 days. Echinacea: despite some early data suggesting it my short the duration, more careful studies have not show this. Also it can have significant side effects. Zinc: see echinacea. Homeopathic remedies; by definition homeopathic remedies are sterile water.

Strong ginger tea, 4 slices per cup, boiled 10 minutes with lots of cream and sugar. Won't cure the cold, but it will make you feel better.
