I have just had a hiv test done, as I found out my boyfriend had been sleeping around behind my back. It is not due back for another 2 weeks. I read on a previous question today that some early symptoms could be white headed spots. I got these spots 4 weeks after I slept with my boyfriend.(ex now of course). They burst but were painful and took a few weeks for the red mark to go away. I had one on my tummy, one on my arm and another two on my inner thigh. They came pretty much at the same time and I havent had any since.( none in the genital area) Is it true that you can get these spots weeks within contracting the disease? Have you ever heard of this before. The girl that asked the question had not had a test done and thought this might be a symptom. My tests for everything else has come back clear so it is not down to any other std. Can somebody please answer this. Im so scared at this moment. Thanks

There is a window for infection which for most of the population in around 3 months. I wouldn't rule out other factors though. You might be having symptoms related to the way you feel. Maybe it's stress related. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. Believe me, it won't help any. As far as early symptoms, it's usually like the flu. You'll have muscle aches and swollen lymph nodes. Most people, however, don't show early symptoms. Your best bet is to wait it out. Not only that, how do you know he has HIV, or anyone he slept with for that matter? Talk to him and find out as much as you can because it's the key to making you feel better.

The earliest symptoms of HIV infection occur while your body begins to form antibodies to the virus (known as seroconversion) between six weeks and three months after infection with the HIV virus. Those who do show early HIV symptoms will develop flu-like symptoms. This can include: fever, rash, muscles aches and swollen lymph nods and glands. However, for most people, the first symptoms of HIV will not be apparent.

Although the infection is slowly taking hold of your body, the majority of those infected with HIV will be asymptomatic. Only by being tested for HIV can you know for sure if you have been infected. Yet, despite the absence of HIV symptoms, you are still highly contagious during this time making it very much a possibility to infect others, including your baby.

Without treatment, people infected with HIV can expect to develop AIDS eight to ten years after HIV infection. Taking HIV medications, however, can slow down this progression. With treatment, it can take ten to 15 years or more before you develop AIDS. In the later stages of HIV, before it progresses to full blown AIDS, signs of HIV infection can involve more severe symptoms. These include:

chronic yeast infections or thrush (yeast infection of the mouth)
Fever and/or night sweats
Easy bruising
Bouts of extreme exhaustion
Unexplained body rashes
Appearance of purplish lesions on the skin or inside mouth
Sudden unexplained weight loss
Chronic diarrhea lasting for a month or more

These are not, repeat not, symptoms of HIV.

It is very normal to feel anxious while you're waiting for HIV test results. I know I do. Try not to let your mind go crazy on worst case scenarios. They're very unlikely to come true.

Those darn anonymous testing centers....... more like psychological torture center! Because you used condoms every time you had sexual intercourse you are fine........ you did, right?

The incubation period for HIV takes a lot longer than weeks...... unless you mean ten to fifty weeks! Incubation can vary widely and will require you to retake the HIV test six months after the one you just took, to make sure that you don't have it.

HIV sucks doesn't it!

P.S.: There are faster tests, but they are more expensive.

Here are the symptoms from the CDC:

The "white headed spots" are, as you can see, not listed. Be patient. Wait for your test results.
