Warning: Not everything that is sold in a restaurant as a "Veggie burger" is actually a vegetarian burger... at some places if you order a "veggie burger" they will give you a hamburger with a bunch of vegetables on it.
Actual vegetarian burgers can be made of any number of things, the most common base ingredients being soybeans, black beans, wheat gluten, mushrooms, and chickpeas.

Not all vegans and vegetarians eat meat like foods. Indians, one of the largest traditionally vegetarian nations eat no meat like products - none of the processed quasi meat foods. No soy, no wheat meat, nothing. There is a reason why these products are made available. It is great for people transitioning from non-vegetarian to vegetarianism. It provides them with the protein and texture satisfaction that veggies lack. There is a world of difference from eating a quasi meat and some "freaking meat "as you don't have to put a bullet through or gut an animal - one of the main reasons why people are vegetarians/vegans. I would eat these quasi meats and I would be so much happier if they call it something else other than "pork" "soy chikn" "beef" and all animal names. But hey, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. If you like to eat the "freaking" meat, you go ahead. Let people choose what they like to eat, at least eating all those quasi meats are not harming animals or contributing to global warming. You can now stop gagging...Peace!

Morning Star Farms makes an excellent soy based burger. They call it textured protein. Soy bean meal and spices, most super Walmarts and even some grociery stores carrry these products.

Mostly soy and vegetables. Some brands use egg whites as binder, so if you don't want that check the ingredients. You can make burgers out of anything you can think of.

some like "boca burger" use soy protein. some like "gardenburger" or "morningstar" use vegetables. i like the soy burgers better because the others tend to fall apart in the bun since they are only vegetables pressed together.
