Giving out bundles of baked goodies for christmas presents this year. But can't seem to find anything inexpensive to put them in that will protect them too.

You could go to Walmart, Target, Michaels even a dollar store and buy the empty christmas containers they run around $1.00 to $5.00 all depending size. Or buy plastic baked goods bags decorated for Christmas from Walmart or Michael's and tie the tops with Christmas colored ribbons.

What about baskets out of bread dough clay? There are a lot of recipes on line for that.

Here's how I make my baskets:

Find an oven-proof bowl in the size and shape you want, then spray oil on the outside. Make ropes out of the clay, weave them on the outside of the container and bake until golden brown. Cool. If you want to you can spray with clear acrylic. Toss a scrap of fabric or cool napkin inside. Fill with baked goods. To make it really fancy, you can wrap the whole thing in tulle or cellophane and top with a bow.

Really, really easy, but if you use acrylic be sure to warn people that if they're going to use the bowl as a breadbasket that they need to line it with something. I don't think it would be a good idea to let food touch the acrylic spray. If you're careful to get a good, thick coat of acrylic on every exposed surface of the basket it can be rinsed under cold water.

Go to the store and buy Mason Jars. They run about a dollar. You can go to the library or look on the internet for Cookies in a Jar recipes. THere are so many... Fill the dry ingredients in the jar, add the recipe attach it with ribbon and viola gift... And you didnt have to bake!

I would suggest the Chinese Takeaway Boxes with the metal handles and a simple ribbon. you can line the box with baking paper and put in the cookies. Have a look at the source below for a picture.

Easy. Go to Smart & Final and get rolls of colored clear plastic food wrap. They are sold in restaurant (commericial) sizes, so the outlay with be higher but the per item cost lower. The wrap will last a long time, so go for it! Enjoy!

You can get christmas tins at dollar stores for a buck or two; even better is if you have a St. Vincent de Paul or Salvation Army thrift store in your neighbourhood: tins go for .25¢.

I dunno if there is a Garden Ridge in your area, but I went last year and bought a bunch of little ceramic bread pans. Very cute. The were painted with Christmas themed stuff and were only $1 apiece. I still have a bunch leftover for this year.

Go to the dollar store and see what you can find there. Or use some decorative saran wrap. Good luck and happy holidays.
