During my stay in northern Thailand, I tried deep fried locusts and caterpillars. Locusts tasted like cheese with crispy texture and caterpillars tasted like and looked like french fries with cheese flavor. They look horrible but once you take a first bite, it is OK, they are tasty, much better with cold beer. Even now insects are important source of protein for mountain people. I think it is less challenging than Japanese sushi of raw octopus or squid.

I ate an ant once. Tasted like... nothing.

I've heard of some places in Asia where they fry up different insects, and it's supposed to be a delicacy. Personally, I don't think I would try it.

No and never will. But I have heard them being described as nutty or milky in flavor.
