My private school is hosting an art show on Saturday and I have been put in charge of the food, they want some American dishes. (We are in Korea) I am open to anything that is easy to make (does not have to be 'american') and will survive from 10am to 6pm for about 60 parents and children. The food will be eaten room to room standing, I plan to supply forks, knives and spoons anyway but i was thinking the less mess the better and moslty items that do not have to be hot all day! Also my budget is about $120 Any suggestiosn are appreciated. Thank you.

Cheese and crackers, fruit, and deviled eggs (there are lots of recipes online for deviled eggs, they are very easy to make and you can really make them quite simply with just a few ingredients - - mash the yolks with a small bit of mayonnaise, prepared mustard, some chopped onion, and a dash of hot sauce). Also, since you have Kindergarteners, peanut butter sandwiches would be a very American touch. We Americans also love our veggie trays - - carrot and celery sticks that we can dip into some ranch dressing. Meat/Cheese/Bread trays are also nice. Hot dogs would also be fun, and quite American, if you had a chafing dish to keep the weiners hot.

And for a stand-up dessert, cupcakes or cookies are better than cake. You won't need utensils.

Good luck!

The cookingblonde has some great ideas. Stay away from foods that will leave fingers greasy or that will crumble. Nobody wants to wonder about how to approach a snack at an art show. Set your food out in batches since you are serving all day.

Nobody in this business would be wondering what to serve 2 days before the party. You may want to skip class.

You can serve finger foods. They aren't messy and most people like them. For example, take a bunch of toothpicks and have fruit wedges (pineapple chuncks, apple, grapes, melon), you can also have cheese and meat platters. This way all yo need are small plates and napkins. Also if you want to do something at the end of the art show you can have a cake and then you would need the forks.

I hope your art show is a success, good luck.

Tea sandwiches are elegant, and can set out, i.e. cream cheese, cucumber, salmon, watercress & butter.

Fruit kebobs - thread assorted fruits on toothpicks. Serve with a yogurt dip.

Or mozzarella cubes and cherry tomato kebobs - alternate for a colorful presentation

Spinach dip in a pumpernickle bread bowl. Serve with cut up crudites on the side - celery sticks, carrots, cherry tomatoes

Won ton skins - spray them w cooking spray, bake them in mini muffin tins & fill with whatever you like - i.e. mini caesar salads

Puffed pastry - wrap around blanched asparagus, and bake.

Or, an asparagus & swiss cheese (or cheese of choice) tart.

Stuffed cucumber rounds - slice cukes in 2" tall slices, hollow out a little of the filling and stuff with salmon mousse (tuna or chicken salad, if on a budget), or cream cheese/bayshrimp or crab mixture. Top w a tiny bay shrimp or fresh dill sprig.

Samosas

Empanadas (sp)

Mini calzones w tomato dipping sauce.

Stuffed crab mushrooms

Mini quiches

Mushroom pate, crackers & assorted cheese

Guacamole and chips
Have fun.

Easy, "aunts on a log" take celery sticks fill with peanut butter and line raisins along the top like they are aunts marching across the celery peanut butter log, cut to 3 inches. This is classic American and holds for hours. Ripple chips and french onion dip, cheezies, veggies and ranch dip, ketchup chips, chocolate chip cookies, and oatmeal cookies, keep the dips on ice to be food safe,no utensils needed! This is all "All American".

I would find a slow cooker, get a big box of frozen meatballs, add some bbq sauce (I like honey garlic flavour). Let it cook, defrosting then warm up for about 4 hours before the show...it keeps well all day thanks to the slow cooker (put it on low during the day).

Have a great time!

You could do a tray of sliced meat (turkey, roast beef, etc...), a tray of cheese, a tray of croissants or bread.
Put the cold trays or ice.
Chips and dip. Vegetables and dip.
