I've never had Chinese food before and my daughter is taking me out to a Chinese resturaunt on Friday. Any suggestions on what to order? They don't have a buffett, I already checked. And nothing spicey, my system can't handle it.

If it's beef you want...go with the lo mien. For seafood, I'd order shrimp in lobster sauce, and for chicken I would order chow mien. All of those are easy on the stomach. I must say that I have a weakness for those dark sticky "oyster" chicken wings.

Mmmm! Try Moo Goo Gai Pan (sounds like Moo Goo Guy Pan). It is slices of chicken meat, with mushrooms, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, and sometimes peapods, in a smooth white sauce. It is very yummy, and not at all spicy!

In most Chinese restaurants, there will be a symbol or designation next to the items that are spicy.

If you get a soup, try a "Sizzling Rice soup", especially if they have one called "3 flavors". It is a chicken broth with chicken, pork, and shrimp, and some light veggies. Egg Flower soup is also good - - it is basically a chicken broth, and then an egg is scrambled and poured into the boiling broth, so it cooks in strings in the broth. It doesn't sound so appetizing when you describe it, but it is good!

I also love a big bowl of pork noodles. Just chicken broth, big fat noodles, and barbequed pork. You slurp it up like soup, even though it is mostly noodles.

Enjoy your new culinary adventure!

Moo Shu Chicken... definitely. It's served with a flattened tortilla looking pancake and plum sauce (not spicy but definitely tasty). Basically is shredded chicken and cabbage that's sauteed together and you eat it with the tortilla with the plum sauce poured over it. You will have some FUN with this dish and maybe be inspired to try more.

My favorites are sweet n' sour chicken, crab rangoon, and sesame chicken with white rice. None of these are spicey (my system can't handle it either)!!

Ask the waiter for advice. You can't go wrong with sweet and sour pork or beef with brocoli.
