I am basically the only person in my family who does not smoke. I have tried to help all of them and about half of them have quit so far.

Have someone make it difficult/ a burden for you to get a hold of the cigarettes. Give the pack you have to someone who lives with you, have them put it somewhere you don't know. So when you want one you would have to ask them for it every time, the burden of having to ask, and the person saying no will become old.

Many of my family members have tried the gum, patches and even the surgery to try stop smoking, and honestly, none of them worked as well as this worked. It may take time, and depending on how many you smoke a day. Try to get it one cigarette lower than the week before, set a goal. Make yourself wanting something else instead of the Cigarette, a lot of times you will smoke because your bored, so find something to do.

The way that I quit was that I just stopped smoking. I know a lot of people use the gum and all of that but I smoked for 4 years and I just decided that I didn't want to do it anymore and so I threw away the rest of my pack, gave a way the rest of my carton and just quit. When I thought about smoking or buying a pack, I just didn't. It's really mind over matter, you control yourself, when you go into the store you decide what you buy, the cigerettes don't just hop in your cart. Make the decision and stick with it.

I think the best thing to do is to slowly smoke less and less. Like, if your smoking a pack a day, dont smoke 2 of them that week. then the next week, leave 2 more. ultimately, your body will not feel the need for the nicotine as much once you get to the last few cigarettes. Good luck, your making a good decision.

You have to have the will power. If this helps in any, I would write down a list of all the reasons why it is bad to smoke. Take that list with you and read it whenever you have the urge to smoke and take a couple of deep breaths.
