i've asked the same thing, also why do other things such as cystic fibrosis get ignored. If you get something terminal like aids and it's your own fault due to lifestyle to heck with ya, just a waste of mine and my hubs tax dollar.

Last I checked, we're spending money on finding a cure for both. The two are not mutually exclusive. And, you can get AIDS from tons of other ways than having sex, like blood transfusions in the 80s, you can be born with it, not to mention the whole situation in Africa! Plus, what if somebody gets raped? They should suffer and die if they contract AIDS? People are *going* to have sex before marriage, especially in this era where people are waiting later and later to actually get married-- they're waiting for true love, instead of getting married soon just to have sex (like some Mormons I know).

Actually there are other ways to get AIDS besides unprotected intercourse (not counting the spouses of cheaters who unsuspectingly get infected - they don't deserve a cure?) How about the millions of children born with the disease? Do they have to suffer for their parents' mistakes? Also tons of people were infected in the 70's and 80's by blood transfusions from hospitals. None of these people deserve a cure?
Both cancer and AIDS kill people every day. Both diseases cause inordinate amounts of suffering up until death. I support a cure for both.

Not lung cancer, right? Or skin cancer? Or colon cancer? Any of those things that a majority of those affected were at fault? Most heart disease is caused by lifestyle issues.
So who gets to decide who lives and dies? Who decides which lifestyles are death sentences? Who are you do say that the choices I make with my body mean that I should die, but my money should go to figuring out how to save you from your Big Mac?
I have no desire to participate in the institution of marriage, and I do enjoy sexual relationships. I personally use condoms, and take other appropriate precautions. If I am raped, then I deserve to die?
And, of course, drug use is also a way to contract this disease. IV drug use, that is. So you're bad if you do heroin, but it's ok if it's cocaine? People make mistakes, and sometimes they pay huge prices. But if we have the chance to save their lives, isn't that the right thing to do?
This post sounds very judgmental, and makes me wonder how a person can have so much rage against fellow people.

the reason being is because many cancers are actually caused by viral infections. it is thought of that most tumors that are cancerous actually have high levels of epstein barr-
epstein barr is a virus that over 95% of the worlds population has.
other viruses in the "flavi" virus family are:
chicken pox
herpes (all simplex's)
yellow and dengue fever
hepatitis c
cold sores/fever blisters
mononucleosis
shingles
there are many other viral infections that play roles in cancer as well, this includes double or single stranded viruses, HIV and all their sub-types.
so this is why they are spending money to cure viruses.
now, i'd think REALLY hard about your body. if you've ever had a cold (sometimes caught by kissing) it would be considered an STD. it is almost certain you have epstein barr since the world is 95% infected, you may of not caught epstein barr through sex, but you have it.
and waiting to have sex with someone until after your married is not a garuntee that you will remain STD free either. more than likely who you choose will probably of already had sex with not just one person.
now, take hepatitis c...not a true STD because blood has to be present (hcv corpuscles found in semen, vaginal and other bodily fluids are not active and unable to transmit). it was given to me at the age of 8 the same way veterans of service got theirs-through the jet shot gun proceedure. i have had sex with more than one person in my life time-no one i've ever had sex with contracted HCV.
had i of not been standing in line that day in my school cafeteria, i'd of not gotten HCV.
nonetheless, there are other ways of getting STD's. sharing a toothbrush, razor, kissing, wiping your eyes after touching a contaminated part of the body.....you certainly get my message.
no one is safe from getting STD's. condoms help prevent, but since kissing is usually present, you can still get them.
abstinence is the best option, but i've not known one person who has never kissed another person before. (herpe's is caught that way as well as yeast infections and fever/cold sores.)

So let me get this straight. You think the only way to get AIDS or an STD is from having sex? You better cough up that dollar for research before you, your partner or God forbid your children wind up with one or the other.

why just single out cancer, we have homeless people, folks with autoimmune diseases, orphans, etc. Regardless they are things are out there and if one isn't taking the proper protection then to each its own.
But if folks were practicing better sex habits the HIV/AIDS epidemic would decrease one day I pray.
