Check out the info package that comes with the drug. Not the ones from the drug co. but the lefelet from the pharmacy. When you take avandia your dr. also needs to check your liver. A simple blood test to test your liver function should of been tested before you were prescribed avandia. Then every few months to once a year after. This is a very common combination for a type 2 patient.

Since these will improve glycemic (glucose or sugar) control the long term effects are that they are very beneficial. Metformin has been linked to lactic acidosis and when this occurs the mortality rate is 50% with or without treatment. I do not generally use metformin although I will admit that the risk of lactic acidosis is quite rare and likely less than one case per million users. I do not use it as there are so many other good choices not because metformin itself is inherently bad. Rosiglitazone (Avandia) has no 'proven' risk with long term use although most physicians are concerned that it may lead to heart failure although my review of the medical literature is that this does not occur. Anything that you ingest even tap water may lead to side effects and the potential risks must always be weighed against the anticipated benefits. Controlling glucose leads to a happy, healthier, and longer life so even if these two medications might pose a risk the benefit is clearly strongly in their favor. The very best of health to you. jermd
