diabetes occurs when for some reason either not enough insulin is produced by the body or that it is unable to enter the cell to control the sugar in the blood.
80% of people diagnosed with Dm are overweight.
Weight loss can help the insulin get into th ecells many times.
Is called improving insulin receptiveness.
When the sugar in the blood is high it has deleterious effects in the body, it is believed that the arteries become "sticky", long standing out of control DM can cause kidney disease and failure, blindness, nerve damage and heart disease. It can be controlled with diet and medication and exercise and weight control.

Insulin is the hormone that converts the food we eat into energy for the cells. When a person is diagnosed as diabetic, he/she may still produce some insulin in the pancreas----but not enough to regulate the sugar in the blood stream. It is possible that they may be able to control or manage their diabetes with diet, exercise, and oral medication. But some diabetics do not produce any insulin in the pancreas. These are the type 1 insulin dependent diabetics. Insulin is the hormone that regulates our blood sugar levels and converts the food we eat into energy for the cells. Without insulin, the blood sugar level rises and eventually the diabetic will develop ketoacidosis and if not treated, go into a diabetic coma.

Diabetes is a disease related to the body's abiility to regulate insulin.
Type I diabetics have a dead pancreas that no longer produces insulin. Without it, we die. These people have to inject insulin usually via hypodermic needle.
Type II diabetics develop a cellular resistance to insulin, which is essential to breaking down sugars in the body. If your blood sugar gets too high, it will act as a corrosive poison and begin destroying both vital organs and your circulatory system. This is why some diabetics lose fingers, toes, or worse, because the tiny capillaries feeding blood to the outer extremities are the first to die, cutting of the blood supply to those areas. Also, excess sugar in the blood can attack the kidneys, leading to kidney failure , as well as attacking the capillaries in the retina of the eye leading to blindness.
Lastly, diabetes weakens your immune system, making it harder to fight off infection or serious illness.

Type I diabetes--often known as Juvenile diabetes--is a disease that develops due to pancreatic failure. The pancreas is responsible for production of the hormone, insulin, which helps break down sugars in foods we eat. Without pancreatic function our bodies require insulin from an outside source to function properly.
I know...My son..now 15...was diagnosed as a diabetic at age 6.

diabetes is a disease of the blood. our pancreas cant make a hormone called insulin. and if we eat sweets and carbs.our body cant break down the insulin properly. it is controlled by diet and excercise for the lucky like me. but others they have to to take medicine becuase the diet dont work. and unfortunatley the ones that are born with it theyhave to go on the shots. it is the hormone that we lack called insulin there is a type 1 and type 2 type 2 develope it over the yrs. and we have to choose not to eat the way others do or take medicine and the ones born with it will have to take the shots
