Abstinence is difficult for humans to practice. There is a base instinct for sexual activity. The obvious answer is to just say no, but there are other things you will need to consider. If you wish to date, be clear up front that you are practicing abstinence. If they don't understand, then they probably aren't right for you anyway.

I am not sure if you are male or femaie, but there may be medical concerns as well. As I am male, I can only point out potential problems from my side of the fence. A common problem that can manifest in men who abstain from any sexual activity (with a partner or by themselves) is a condition called Prostatitis (prostate infection). If your reason to abstain is for your personal well-being (i.e. don't want an STD, HIV, etc) there is nothing wrong with self pleasuring activities. This will keep a healthy flowing of normal bodily functions that will reduce your risk for potential medical problems like prostatitis. The added mental benefit is that you will allow yourself to not focus on sexual interactions, thereby making abstinence easier.
