Because if you have had sex, you could have it. If you spread it, you will be responsible for killing someone by this disease.

If you're having intercourse, it's imperative to be tested for HIV at least once a year, or more if you switch sexual partners. You should get tested because it's the responsible thing to do. You never know if a person has had unprotected sex with another person and you never know if a person has cheated on you. It's simply better to be safe than sorry. Whenever you go into a relationship with another person, you'll want to know you've been cleared for STDs, even if you use condoms because condoms do break, accidents do happen. Believe me it's pretty scary but the benefits are well worth it. You go to the gyno and are screened for various STDs as well as cervical cancer. Usually you get a breast exam to clear you for breast cancer. At the end, you can request a blood test for HIV, as well as get information on birth control. It's best to get it ALL out of the way. If you're scared, which you will normally be scared, try relaxing by doing whatever makes you feel at ease the night before going to get your results.

Because if you are sexually active and dont use protection, its the only way to find out if you have contracted it. Generally it takes a few years for HIV to show up as symptoms, but by then its too late, you've already got it. Not to say that if you have it now that its GOOD news, but the earlier it is detected, the sooner you can start treatment. Take it from me, I have been poz for 14 years and though I'm not happy that I have this, I feel secure that I will remain relatively healthy because it was detected early and I am on anti-retroviral medication.
My prayers are with you, but PLEASE GO GET TESTED!!!!

If you are a risk of having it (unprotected sex, multiple partners, IV drug user) So you don't spread it to others and so you can get treated before it turns into AIDS
