Are the black soy beans best for that? I don't like mushy beans. Thank you.

I would totally go with organic canned black beans. They aren't mushy and have great flavor. Make sure you rinse the beans well, to get all the starch off. Red kidney beans would also be an excellent choice for bean salad.

I find that chickpeas (also called garbanzos) hold their shape really well in liquids and don't really get too mushy. However, some people don't care for the flavor and in that instance I might go for white beans or kidney beans. Black beans actually do get a little mushier than some other kinds (think refrieds), so I might steer clear of those for a salad. best of luck to you.

I'd go with canned regular black beans for a salad. Trying to cook dried beans could result in them splitting or turning to mush.

Soy beans are horrible...very mushy and leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Use dried black beans. Cook them according to the package (presoak then boil), or use a pressure cooker. Caution - the pressure cooker may cause them to split.
