The changes leading to diabetes begin a decade before it is typically diagnosed so clearly there are no symptoms early on. In addition most people with demonstrable elevations in glucose have few if any symptoms and what they experience is typically vague. The 'classic' symptoms of polyphagia (excessive appetite), polydipsia (excessive thirst), and polyuria (excessive urination) are the exception rather than the rule. The incidence of diabetes is rapidly increasing so I increasingly encourage people to purchase a glucometer and check their fasting glucose every 3 to 6 months. If a reading is above 100 mg/dL or 5.6 mmol/L they are to repeat it in a few days and if this number is consistent they email their readings to me. This approach is more likely to detect diabetes at an earlier stage when we may be able to do more good. During the past 5 years treatment options for diabetes have improved dramatically. I should close by saying that these comments are for type 2 diabetes only and if anyone would like a comment on their glucose readings (diabetic or not) please send them to johnerussomd@jhu.edu

I suffer from type 1 diabetes also, but i had alot of the symptoms, i was always thirsty, needing to go to the toilet allot, very tired alot, would sleep alot, i had dark bags under my eyes, i lost alot of weight and didn't have much of an appetite.
So my grandma has type 2 diabetes, so they did a blood sugar test, it was very high (this was at night so i couldn't go to the doctor), next morning i was taken straight to the doctor and i was told i have type 1 diabetes, and spent 1 week in hospital.
i was 13 at the time

Actually, many people who have acquired diabetes can go for some time without even realising they have it for lack of distinct symptoms, or some symptoms aren't bad enough for them to be aware that there's anything wrong. Best thing is to get regular check-ups with the doc.
Early symptoms of diabetes may include the following:
* Extreme thirst
* Extreme hunger
* Frequent urination
* Sores or bruises that heal slowly
* Dry, itchy skin
* Unexplained weight loss
* Blurry vision that changes from day to day
* Unusual tiredness or drowsiness
* Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet
* Frequent or recurring skin, gum, bladder or vaginal yeast infections

Many common natural remedies are claimed to have blood sugar lowering properties that make them useful for people with or at high risk of diabetes. Learn here https://tr.im/e8eir
A number of clinical studies have been carried out in recent years that show potential links between herbal therapies and improved blood glucose control, which has led to an increase in people with diabetes using these more 'natural' ingredients to help manage their condition.

I suffer from type 1 diabetes and i would advise that if you or anyone you know have any doubts about your health with regards to this illness,get it checked out.
As has been already mentioned,some chemists do blood sugar checks etc.
Mine was detected through a routine eye-test.However i had no symptoms that i noticed at the time.

Low sugar numbers, shaking, thirsty, dizzy, weak, confused, numbness in an area of your body (like one spot on your leg) Coma
High sugar numbers, dizzy, confused, sleepy, vomiting, coma
These are only some of them, if you think you may have diabetes please go to see your doctor right away because the sooner you find out the easier it is to manage. Please ask your doctor how comfortable they feel with treating diabetes because not all family are experts.
