Snoring comes from the thickening of the throat tissue and muscles from weight gain. Loosing just 10 lbs will help some.
My Mother in law 5 ft tall and 168 lbs. went on thyroid meds and lost 17 lbs over 3 months. Her life long snoring and sleep apnea went away. Her problem was so bad, when she closed her lips to chew, she made a snoring noise at the table. It was gross. But it went away after at least 30 years with only that little weight loss.
But then again it could have been the Synthroid (thyroid medication) that fixed it. Maybe a test wouldn't hurt. It is a simple blood test.

Normally what is going on is your tongue is sliding back and blocking your airway enough that you snore. If you notice if u roll onto your side you quit snoring. Just be careful because chronic snoring or snoring in where u stop breathing could be sleep apnea, which is a condition that needs to be treated medically with a CPAP or BIPAP machine you wear when u sleep. See your doct and they can tell u whats best.

The tissue in the upper airway in the back of the throat relaxes during sleep. When you breath in,it causes this tissue to vibrate.
Stay away from sedatives.
You snore when you sleep on your back.
Sew a tennis ball on to the back of your pajamas, that way when roll over your back, you hit this hard object and unconsciously you roll off your back there by avoiding snoring.

Nothing is happening inside your mouth but if you have snoring problems you should see your doc to be sure you don't have something serious going on like sleep apnea.

I have had pretty good luck using this dental device: http://www.britishsnoring.co.uk/shop/mouth_breathing_devices/somni_snoreguard.php?PHPSESSID=7423b9d9c45b41f35308e1e83644f8e8
When I saw that it helped, I am so compulsive and thought the company would go out of business that I ordered 2 more.
It took about 2 weeks to get used to it: kept worrying me, falling out, etc. My dog even chewed one up after it fell out. Watch the video that is on the page.

Your tongue is falling back in your throat, this is the cause of death in most first aid situations with an unconcious patient.Dont worry though you wont die.Sleep apnea is not a problem you wake up.
