Cut her some slack. She could have had it for ages as a carrier and not known about it until know. I presume she had symptoms that made her go to the Doctor. I went for 3 years with no secual relationship and I mean no contact, before my symptoms showed up and I was diagnosed. Yeah it is a ***** but try concentrating on the good aspects of your relationship. Remember to get yourself tested. Men dont often show symptoms but can be carriers and you will have an obligation to future partners. Stats in the states is 1 in 8 adults carry the Herpes 2 virus but only 1 in 3 know about it. As I said, cut her some slack and be supportive.

Right, if she has no symptoms then she could of had it for a while. Most people don't get symptoms. If she does, then symptoms usually occur within 20 days. Hardly ever over. It doesn't need to be mouth to genetil. Theres HSV-1 (which is usually present on the face as a cold sore) and HSV-2 (which is usually found in the genital area) Both these can be passed to both parts of the body (though don't thrive as much)

Also, do you get cold sores? You coulda passed it on.

You can't get it from toilet seats, or sharing towels or anything. The only time theres real risk of passing it on genitally is if there is blisters, but everyone gets assymptomatic periods, called viral shedding, when the virus can be passed on. Using a condom doesn't always protect you. So get tested.

Talk to your girlfriend though, and see what she says.

It it possible to have herpes without knowing. Granted it's not that common, but the possibility exists that your partner could have been carrying the virus for a few years without being aware of it. It's also possible that you have not gotten it because your partner hasn't had an outbreak of the virus until recently.

Try talking to her some and maybe you'll find that it wasn't a in recent indiscretion, but a past relationship that she contracted the virus. It's still possible that she got it recently, but that's something that you'll have to find out by talking with her.

herpes can lay dormant plus some times you don't even know when you're having an out break,,i think if your partner has told you this then they have probably got some information leaflets,so take time sit down and read them,,your partner has just had the decency to tell you instead of running away..

Ok, first you need to calm down. Then you need to ask her. You can carry the herpes virus without symptoms for years so she may have contracted it before she was with you. It doesn't mean she has been cheating.

You can get the herpesvirus through penetetrive sex (vaginal or anal) and from oral sex. You can also transfer it via your fingers. The herpes virus is the same as the one that gives you coldsores.

You do need to go to a sexual health clinic or your doctors, wherever you feel most comfortable, and get checked out.

Herpes viruses are contagious. Contact may occur directly, or through contact with infected razors, towels, dishes, and other shared articles. Occasionally, oral-to-genital contact may spread oral herpes to the genitals (and vice versa).(MedlinePlus)
Sex should always be avoided in the presence of symptomic lesions. Oral sex performed by someone with oral lesions or other symptoms should be avoided, to avoid transmission of HSV-1 to the partner's genitals. Even without symptoms it is possible for transmission to occur. Many people still believe Herpes cannot be transmitted through oral sex. This is a dangerous myth.(Wikipedia)
Genital herpes is the most common ulcerative sexually transmitted disease in developed countries. It is usually caused by HSV-2, although 10 to 30% involve HSV-1. (Merck)
Please see the web pages for more details on Herpes simplex.

She could have contracted it a while ago and it took awhile for the symptoms to show up. In Our Bodies Ourselves they say that symptoms show up anywhere from two days to two months, although many many not experience symptoms until much later.

Don't get jealous and accusatory towards your partner. She needs your love and support right now. Just because she has it, doesn't mean you do. However, you need to find a way to protect yourself.

This disease can linger in the body for relatively long periods of time before ever having symptoms. You both could be infected and it would be almost impossible to tell who contracted it first. Condoms do not prevent the spread of genital herpes.

You have not specified as to what type of herpes she has and there are many in different parts of the body. Genital Herpes can be contracted in the manner you have described but its a different strain from mouth to genitals. It is most commonly contracted via sex.

Don't believe the toilet seat stuff either. (I am a health professional believe me, this would be extrememly hard to contract via a toilet seat) You do however, need to get tested.
