While it may be warts, lumps round the genital area in children are commonly mollusca contagiosa, a common viral skin condition that produces smooth dome shaped lumps, often in clusters. They can occur anywhere in the body, especially around the midsection. They can be sexually transmitted, but are more commonly spread through water, e.g. sharing a bath.

They don't need treatment unless the child is concerned about them. Check with your doctor if you're not sure.

DO NOT assume sexual abuse before you have established the diagnosis: mollusca are extremely common in otherwise healthy children aged 2 to 10.

Genital warts **CANNOT** be contracted by toilet seats or casual contact like sharing a bed. And while HPV can be contracted during childbirth, those warts will show up in the throat, not the genitals or anus.

A common and TRAGIC source of genital warts on small children is MOLESTATION. There is a strong possiblity those kids have been sexually abused, and they need to be brought to safety. Have your friend take them to a doctor immediately, and gently inform her they may have been abused. Then seek help from Child Protective Services.

I feel terrible for those poor kids. I hope whoever did that to them goes to hell.

Genital warts cannot be transmitted via a toilet seat or just from sleeping in the same bed. You also do not get them from touching your genital area with your hand if you have a wart on your hand. Pretty much the only way that a child would have genital warts is if the child was molested by someone who was infected. You need to get these children to the doctor ASAP, and talk with the children to see if you can determine who is molesting them.

Good luck.

Genital warts can be transmitted when the wart sheds skin. If the Mom or Dad has them and the child sleeps in the same bed - the child can get them easily.. HPV is very contagious and spreads very very easily. You can touch a door knob that has shedded skin particles of HPV and then scratch yourself down there... Guess what? You got them... Can be caught from public toilet seats too... CDC doesn't want to alarm people, but HPV is highly contagious! But, it is the least of worrisome of any STD..

If the parents have it the child can be born with it. Some children are born with the herpes virus in their body from the parents. There is no cure for HPV and just getting them removed does not mean they will not come back. Most people think removing the warts removed the problem but that is not true!!

Since warts are caused by a virus they obviously had the virus someplace and have touched this area causing it to spread. She should take the kids in to the docs to get them checked out and possibly removed if necessary.

yep, thats what it is. it is viral so the child had to have some kind of contact. since both kids have it, she needs to take them to the docotr, as they can cause all kinds of health problems, especially in female reproductive organs.
