I'm supposed to bring in some Indian food or dish to food class but I'm not sure what to. (I'm not indian, but one of my neighbors is and she's going to help me out with this.) Since everyone in my class is white, I was wondering which Indian foods or dishes they would like, so I can have some idea of what to make. (by the way, it has to be vegetarian because my neighbor is vegetarian).

thanks!

Do you have to make it? If not, ask someone in your area about the best indian restaurant. Butter chicken or Paneer Mahkini is really good and the best choice for those trying Indian for the first time. I say pick some up the night before and put in a special dish. Most restaurants give you the rice that goes with it so you'll be set! Oh and be sure to ask for mild!

BTW, Paneer Mahkini is vegetarian so your neighbor should be able to make that.

Try making samosas (pastry with potatoes and veggies inside), pappadums and mango chutney, aloo gobi (potatoes and cauliflower), a simple rice dish, saag paneer (cheese in a creamy spinach sauce) and maybe a dal (lentil soup).

Chana Masala! It's my favorite--chick peas in masala sauce, with rice of course. generally non-threatening, and very tasty. Try to make raita and naan too, if you can! They made me fall in love with Indian cuisine!

I think samosas will be well received, as well as a mild chana saag. Don't make it too spicy...some people in your class may not be used to it.
