I smoked on and off for that much time and I quit cold turkey about 17 years ago and I don't have any lung problem. I will admit that I am prone to Bronchitis, but inherited that from my father.

My father smoked Camels cigarettes for at least that long, if not longer, and he died of Emphysema as a result of it. For about the last 10 years he was on oxygen 24/7 and the last 5 years he couldn't even go outside. If he got sick my mother had to call an ambulance and go to the Emergency Room. The lack of oxygen affects the brain and he became irritable and argumentative; and, that was not like my father at all. Fortunately he died in his sleep; and, I say fortunately because when a person usually dies of Emphysema they usually struggle to breathe and can't. It's not a pretty sight. I seen my father struggle even with oxygen. Have you seen people walking hauling around an oxygen tank? That could very well be as a result of smoking.

If I put the fear of God in anyone as a result of this, I hope so.

I smoked for 46 years before I quit. I am 60 now. I have severe COPD and I am on oxygen 24/7. If I had quit even 6 years ago, I would probably still be healthy today. I know this because we just checked back that far in my records to see how bad my lungs have become over the years. In last 3 years my lung capacity has gone from 50% to 34%.

SO ! YES would be the answer to your question..................

Yes, enjoy the little things in life, like the smell of fresh air and the taste of fine food! Do yourself a favor, right now, and pick up that pack of cigs and pitch them in the garbage can, and pour a big cup of water over them so you don't tempt yourself.

Then, for the next two weeks, take charcoal tablets (you can find them in the local herb shop or pharmacy) every day. Think about the money you will save by not buying cigarettes, and save the money you would have spent on cigarettes instead on a brand new car.

God bless you on your new discovery of life!

You need to quit if possible. The damage that in you lungs is irreversible. But if you quit smoking, you will definitely prolong your life by not causing any more damage and you will also have a better quality of life. Good luck to you and your efforts.

Some people suffer no ill effect for years and if you are fortunate enough to be one - quit while you are ahead - some people begin to plummet sooner - still worth quitting as treatments depend on it. Talk to your medical adviser where is your health headed? As soon as you know it is easier to decide. It is usually best to quit but if you are determined it is always worth the effort.

NO, Its not worth it to quit. i;ve been smoking for 25 years and for the life of me I do not understand why anyone would want to stop. You have been a smoker for 30 years and it must have meant to be an important part of your lifestyle or else you would have quit along time ago. You can quit any time you want to, but it will drastically alter your life. Try to imagine life without that 1st cigarette in the AM. You regard smoking as your personal time for YOU!!. Don;t give that up.

Please quit...

"For the vast majority of smokers, quitting smoking is the best single thing they can do to improve the length and quality of their lives. Persons who quit smoking immediately begin to reduce their chances of developing heart disease, cancer, breathing problems, infections, or being in an accident.

Former smokers also live longer than those who continue to smoke. For example, those who quit before age 50 have only half the chances of dying in the next 15 years compared with those who continue to smoke."

Good luck quitting! YOU can do it!!!
