I have a 5 year old blood glucose monitor & just got a brand new one a few days ago. What can I do with my old one? It still works good & I really don't want to throw it away. Can I donate it somewhere? Can it be sent back to the manufacturer for recycling or donation?

Something I have done over the years with several of my machines, leave one at work, leave one at home, donate one to the hospital fr newly diagnosed diabetics. The last one is always my favorite since it gives a useable machine to someone that may not be otherwise able to afford all the costs. Otherwise give it to an abulance departmentor the hosiptal floor that deals with diabetics. A few suggestions. Good luck and best wishes it is always nice to hear of someone that is interested in returning something to the diabetic field!

The best places to check are your local MD, a diabetes group, or a nearby hospital. I have several of them and I never even thought about recycling them. It is unlawful to mail them without special packaging once they are used because of the bloodborne pathogen scare. I will probably check for myself now...
Thank you,

I don't think you can do any thing w/ them.. I don't belive any one would want it. the machines are made to be throw aways, they make all their money on the strips and just give away the meters.
