The only thing that can help your health is to completely quit.

I'm not sure I understand your question......are you asking for advice on how to quit smoking, or do you just want to be healthier while being a smoker???

If you truly want to quit, look at some pictures on websites of cancerous lungs under "google images." Then after you get some motivation, go shopping. There are a ton of different products out there to help a person stop smoking. You just have to find what interests & works for you, just like if you were dieting. There are patches, suckers, gum, hypnosis, medicines, and more. Some people smoke because they are bored and need something to do with their hands. If that's the case, take up a new craft that will keep your hands busy.

If you just want to be healthier & not quit smoking, then start exercising and eating healthier, and drink lots of water. Yoga is good for deep breathing exercises. However, just know that the more you smoke, the more damage you are doing to your lungs.

Whatever your decision, stick with it and don't give up. Good luck.

I smoked for 16 years, 1-1/12 packs per day! A lot of people will disagree with me, YOU have to want to stop. And YES it IS a habit! You have to break the habit. I smoked after every meal, I smoke while I talked on the phone, first think I did when I got in the car, lite a cig. Break the routine, only you can do it if you truely want to. I haven't had a smoke in 2 years. I feel wonderful. I never believed the things I would read about how people changed after they stopped. But it's true. Food tastes different, everything smells different. I am full of energy. I wish you the best. Do not get discouraged if the first time doesn't work. It took me 3 times. Make the pack you have your last! Good luck!

You have developed the first goal in wanting to quit -- you realize that you have a problem. Now the next step is taking action in the quitting process. I am a smoker myself so I can't tell you successful ways to quit, but I have found several sites that may help in guiding you toward your goal.

As far as your health is concerned and your smoking habit of needing one ever 30 minutes. Next time you feel the need - start an activity -- walk around the house. Don't do anything that you usually do while enjoying that good ole smoke. To change old bad habits one must develop new good habits. The less you do smoke the better. Good luck -- and do as I say not as I do.

Well you said you can't stop, so i don't see why you'd need advice online, sure people will tell you that smoking is bad and you'll die from it but I'm sure you already know that by now, i think you just want sympathy, if you really wanted help, you'd go to some anti-smoking program, not have a whinge here about it.

Ok! I'm going to tell you how I kept my smoking under control and then stopped 39 years ago.

1. Only allow yourself a cigarette at the top of the hour.
NO CHEATING. If you miss the top of the hour for any reason you must wait till the next hour.

2. When you desperately want a cigarette and it isn't time, chew sugar free gum, have sugar free hard Candy on hand. I like Werthers myself. I would breath in and out through my mouth until the desire passes. It created the same general sensation of inhaling and exhaling smoke. Oh yes I chewed nicotine gum also.

By doing this taper down for a couple of weeks, your next step will be One in the morning, mid morning, lunch, mid afternoon, evening. This for two weeks, then cut to three a day. Then after two weeks and none. Remember you have learned self discipline and you can do it.

Trust me I know it is hard. I was a two pack a day person (thanks to a divorce). But we have lived in a better house and had a healthier family just because two of us were able to stop smoking.

Trust yourself, you can be self disciplined and healthier. Do not keep them out where you can automatically reach them and pick them up. Keep them put away so it is inconvenient to get one out.

Just remember if you have a bad day, get back on schedule and keep on going. It was five years before cigaretts finally became disgusting to smell or be around.

My Father died of Emphsemia from smoking for 68 years. Please believe me when I tell you that his was a horrible death. So for your sake and your family. Stop now and get healthy.

You can do it and Best Wishes and Good Luck.

There's a medical procedure that can be done to help people stop smoking, but you need to find a hospital or clinic that does this since it's doctor supervised to help you deal with the withdrawals of nicotine and there's this stuff called Nicocure which is a natural supplement to help you quit smoking.

i know EXACTLY what you mean.
when it became obvious i wasn't quitting anytime soon, i decided to go on damage contention (sure i'll still die horribly)
i switched to roll-your-own with slim filters. this way i smoke a smaller amount of tobacco each time, and tend to smoke less cigarettes because i can't just pull one out from the pack.
as a bonus it doesn't come with loads of chemicals and most brands taste better than the pre-packed crap.
many people will think you're rolling a joint, though :)

if you're planning on stopping i recommend reducing to bare minimum for a couple of days and then go cold turkey. choose a long weekend for this otherwise you'll just bite someone's head off. you'll have to be constantly eating to soothe the nerves a bit (and will still get homicidal tendencies). tea tends to help too. if you're too desperate go for nicotine candy and some say acupuncture is good for the anxiety.

The truth is, that it's not easy. And most of the people out there smoking today wish that they had never started. My grandmother has really bad emphysema and has to be on oxygen, she probably doesn't have much longer to live. She's trying to quit using the patch. My mother is also trying to quit, she's been quite successful. The doctor has her on a drug called Chantrix. Talk to a doctor, get a support network. You can quit!! You can do it!! Take care of yourself, good luck.

FORGET all the other answers. You need to spend a week with me. I am on total disability so I don't have to work. I am on disability because I have severe COPD. I am on oxygen 24/7, plus many other drugs and inhalers.

I won't try and talk you into quitting. I won't talk to you at all. You just follow me and at the end of one week, I guarantee you that you will not smoke again..........

Let me know when you are ready.
