I used to order this dark, sticky, sweet and spicy chicken at this restaurant that went out of business and I have tried many restaurants and they don't make it or know what I am talking about. I don't know it's real name or how to spell it but it sounds like: iamketsup.

is it Ayam Kecap?
Well, it literally means Soy Sauce chicken in Indonesian.

I don't know how to make it, but with the name of the dish, hopefully you can search for one online.

I actually found one in Bahasa Indonesia, but my rusty Indonesian is keeping me from translating half of it for you. Sorry!

here is the link, it has a picture of the dish for you to verify whether this is the dish you are thinking about or not:

I lived in Indonesia for several years and enjoyed this chicken.
1 chicken, skinned and cut up
3 tbsp. butter
3-4 cloves garlic, pressed
1 c. sweet soy sauce (kecap manis--available in Asian markets--ABC brand is good)
salt and pepper to taste
Spread the garlic on chicken pieces. Place in 13x9 pan and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Dot chicken with small chunks of butter. Cover with soy sauce. Bake, uncovered, turning once, at 350, for 40 minutes. Enjoy!
