Hello.... If they were "almost" the same they were called the same before, Tortilla is made of Corn and can not be consider as bread, now, why your answer came the other way??...
Can be bread a form of tortilla ???

Technically, a tortilla is a kind of bread. "Tortilla" is the Spanish/Mexican word for the circular, flat fried bread that it is. We don't typically consider a taco or fajita a kind of sandwich because of the Mexican origin of that kind of food.
There are two basic kinds of tortillas: corn and wheat. A corn tortilla is the kind you're more likely to find a hard-shell taco or enchilada made out of, and a wheat (or "regular") tortilla is the kind you'll get if you ask for a soft taco at Taco Bell.

Since the sandwich is named after the Earl of Sandwich...
It comes down to the definition of a sandwich where a sandwich is made with yeast bread (leavened).
Tortillas are not yeast breads so tacos and burritos are not sandwiches.

Although a tortilla in the Mexican cuisine refers to the 'bread' wrapping, in the Spanish cuisine a tortilla is a type of omelet!

well its a type of flat bread but cant make a sandwich with it. there is a mexican sandwich though, but its called a TORTA... U CAN FILL IT WITH MANY THINGS AND ITS MADE WITH A SPECIAL MEXICAN BREAD AND ITS VERY GOOD!
