Dr.'s discretion and the problem with the patient. I usually have to have an EKG every 7 years or so. I had three open heart surgeries when I was born and have been doing fine ever since. Like I said, depends on the health of the person, and what the dr. says. Good luck and God Bless!

You must have had a very good reason for a cardiac catherization to have been done but it was truly 'normal' then there is no reason to have it repeated ever unless again there is a very good reason to do so. A very good reason would be that the physician believes it highly likely that you have significant coronary artery disease which with your previous catherization turned out not to be the case so I wonder why it was done and how you will assess the recommendation to have another one. An ECG (EKG abbreviates the German word) should be done as a routine matter by age 45 in men and age 55 in women to establish you personal 'normal' as normal is a very broad term and this allows for a comparison ECG when one is done when you are having problems. There is no consensus on when to repeat it but if you are well and without medical problems every 5 years is more than often enough. A normal ECG and a normal cardiac catherization implies that you are not at risk for a heart attack in the near future say the next 5 to 10 years but this statement is dependent upon the assumption that they were both quite normal and that you are quite healthy and symptom free. Good luck and best wishes.

No such thing as never.
You will need another EKG or cardiac cath when you have something going on that makes the docs think that you might have a heart problem. You won't need another one, but because you had one.
Whether, or not, you will have an MI in the future can't be foretold by a normal (negative) EKG.

It depends on the original reason for the EKG. Normally they only retest if you have recurring heart symptoms such as chest pain , shortness of breath etc. A negative EKG and/or cardio cath is not an indication you will not have heart problems in the future. it simply means you don't have them right now.

no a negative ekg and cardiac cath doesnt mean that you wont have one in the future. a good physcian would let you know how often you should have the testing done depending on your family history and present health status. I worked on a cardiac floor as an rn

Probably not until you have a reason to get one.
For instance, if you have surgery, they take one, or if you have chest pains or palpitations, or some other heart symptom....
