Can these blood pressure tablets be taken when required for anxiety? Or can you only take them daily? Has anyone been prescibed blood pressure tablets to be taken when required?

I'm pretty sure I have seen propranolol 10mg tds prn (three times daily when required). I wouldn't advocate anything higher than a 40mg dose being taken as required, otherwise you have to start worrying about transient drops and raises in blood pressure causing lots of problems.

If you have propranolol tablets as opposed to capsules they may be taken for 'performance anxiety' but not for blood pressure as their duration of action is too short so if you are indeed taking them for blood pressure you may wish to change physicians and no it is never appropriate to take blood pressure medication on an as needed or as required basis even in a hospital situation.

Propanolol is a dangerous medication with many side effects and is seldom used for blood pressure control for that reason. Do not take it except as ordered. Too much can cause cardiac stand still.
