First of all you have to make the decision that smoking cessation is in your best interests then stick to it.
Much of the habit associated with smoking concerns the activity of smoking. How you hold the smoking materials, flip ashes, talk and so forth. My particular demon involved that morning cigarette with a cup of coffee -- my how I loved it.
Then you substitute something else for the activity.
Next you deal with the aspect of physical addiction to nicotine. You can take a substitute which does not compromise your lungs such as the patch or a capsule of nicotinic acid.
When the urges begin -- typically that first day -- you review the reasons why you're quitting.
Tell yourself how you need to retain as much of that squamous epithelial lining of the lungs as you can and how smoking affects the heart as well. Look up the topics of 'cor pulmonale' and 'empyema thoracis' and carcinoma of the lung and decide for yourself that this is not the way you wish to end your existence on this Earth.
Think about the impact on your family members and the consequences of 'second hand smoke'.
Finally, go for a walk. Indulge yourself with something else that doesn't involve breathing smoke into your lungs.
If you decide for yourself that smoking is not a good thing for your physical well being and make up your mind to quit -- all else that is required is determination.
When I made the decision I quit cold turkey. The patch helped me somewhat but by and large I lost the crutch after a week and just decided that smoking "wasn't me."
Good luck !

u have actually taken ur forst step to stop smoking, i.e., u have understood the fact and realised tht u have stopped doin so... next u should know to resist urself, i.e, whenever u feel like smoking just tell again and again to urself the reasons as to why u should not smoke! if tht doesnt help then u can make a chart as to how many cigars u used everyday and try to reduce the no of them!
U could also meditate! it might heelp u to keep a clean mind

Dad useed to smoke and he says the secret to stop smoking is that you have to want to quit. If you want to quitm you cab do it, dad did it cold turkey after proberly 40 years of smoking. How bad do you want to quuit? If bad enough, you can do it. He didn't use gum or patches either.
Good luck
