I'm going tro some Chinese and Arab ethnic stores today for some stuff... is there anything I should look out for that you particularly like?

Arabic stores :- Raz el hanout (wonderful spice mix)
Pomegranate syrup
Preserved Lemons (although not hard at home)
Saffron
Harrisa (spice rub)
Tahini (sesame seed paste.
Mergez (great spicy sausage).

Chinese:- Oyster Sauce
Rice noodles and discs
Soy sauce
Chili paste
Ginger paste
Star anise
Five spice powder
Sesame seed oil
Sichuan peppercorns
Black bean sauce.

You bet there is - I visit Mr Lings in Glasgow about 5 times a year and spend £50 - £60 every time. You should be looking out for --
Fresh lemon grass/galangal/fresh Kaffir lime leaves/ Kamiri nuts /Bok Choy / choy sum / Big Thai red dried Chillies.
Fermented chilli bean paste / Tom Yum Paste for Thai soups / Red Green Yellow curry Pastes by Mae Ploy /Bamboo shoots with Bi-yanang / sour mustard leaf /tinned pickled veg / Guillin chilli sauce by Kum Kee / Sambal Oelek /rice vinegar / Thai Oyster sauce / Fish sauce / Shaohsing Wine /Light and Dark Soy Sauce.This lot would get you going. I cook Asian food 3/4 times a week and could eat it all the time. I make some incredible curries.Plenty of recipes on the web!!

Yes please, one 12-bottle case of Saudi full proof whisky, six half-litre tubs of Chinese natural yoghurt and four 250g packs of traditional white Mandarin cheese.

Garamasala...its the base for most curry dishes. Really good. You will be able to make up your own curries.
