It does due to the flu virus affecting the blood sugar levels in a diabetic. Thus making a diabetic feel much worse, grumpy and feeling even more fatigued, due to swinging sugar levels.
Hence the importance of keeping blood testing on a regular basis when ill, and eat small meals, even when you may have no appetite due to the flu.

Infulenza like any infection will have an impact on blood sugar. In most diabetics it will cause to to rise, causing a second problem to be delt with on top of the flu symptoms.
For this reason all diabetics type I and type II should be first in line for flu shots every October.

No, the flu is the same. What is worse is that sugar control may be more difficult during illness. If he is taking meds and not eating this could lower his sugar to levels that make him feel worse. Have him monitor his sugar during an illness. Any diabetic should receive the annual flu shot, as well as have had a pneumovax shot (a vaccine against pneumonia). As well, make sure he stays well hydrated, because dehydration would make sugar control more brittle.

Yes it is. When a diabetic gets the flu, and can not keep fluids down they run the risk of becoming dehydrated. Get a flu shot once a year. If you do get the flu, and can not keep fluids down contact your dr immediately.

The flu is a major stress on the body.Any stress will effect blood sugars. We often cannot fight the flu if we cannot eat, are fighting a fever and have tummy probs.
Always get a flu shot and the shot for pneumonia
Everything is different when you have diabetes. It takes a bit more time and thought.

Anything that inhibits eating is likely to have an impact on diabetes.
The flu often has vomiting as a symptom. This is seriously problematic for a diabetic.

I WOULD THINK THE FLU WOULD BE WORSE FOR A DIABETIC, MY BROTHER WAS A DIABETIC, BUT IT WAS NOT THE FLU THAT GOT HIM, BUT YOU MUST TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND MONITOR YOUR LEVELS
