The best way to know is to go get an EKG and cardiac enzymes done, but some key differences are that people with heart problems often will also experience nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sweaty and clammy skin, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing and pain that moves from the chest in to the jaw, back, left shoulder and arm.
heartburn is usually precipitated by eating spicy or greasy foods, it does not move from the chest or epigastric region and it decreases when you drink milk or take an antiacid

I have both. aren't i lucky? the heartburn ( i have acid reflux) is really high, like above your breasts, and heart trouble is really low, like the bottom of your breastbone. also with heartburn you will have a taste in your mouth sooner or later (belch and you will have a yucky, acid taste) A heart attack feels like you have an elephant sitting on your chest. the best way is to take rolaids (only thing that helps) and the burning should go away quick. If it doesn't call 911. baking soda and water works great if you have no rolaids, If you're not absolutely sure you need to have a stress test. don't wait until you fall flat on your face.

When you have the pain, take tums or rolaids, if it is heartburn, the pain should subside after 15 minutes. If you still feel pain and shortness of breath-I would go see a doctor asap...
other signs would be being very anxious , having cold and clammy skin and pain that radiates to the neck , back, arms or jaw...
take care-check out mayoclinic.com..lots of good info

If you have heart burn and lie down quite often you will start coughing and your throat will start burning....alot of people have it because they have acid reflux. Heart problems tend to start showing themselves with feeling tired and shortness of breath etc.
You really need to go to the dr about either one and find out the underlying cause. In the meantime stay away from spicy food, coffee, chocolate, sodas, and tomatoes. They are horrible if you have heartburn

Well you should really go see a doctor but the difference to me is that with heart burn, you really feel like something in your chest is on fire. It actaully feels like burning. But you should really go see a doctor because it could be something else
